MoveOn Applauds Bipartisan House Vote on Iraq, Strongly Opposes Using U.S. Military Force in Iraq

Statement from Anna Galland, executive director of MoveOn.org Civic Action, on today’s House vote barring President Obama from sending troops to Iraq for a sustained combat role without congressional approval:
“Today, the House of Representatives listened to the American people and overwhelmingly voted to stop the march towards another war in Iraq. This resounding vote comes on the heels of troubling news that total number of U.S. military personnel in Iraq is now nearly 1,000. The message sent today by Congress should be unmistakably clear: the President must seek authorization before any further U.S. military escalation in Iraq. MoveOn members, the American public, and their representatives in Congress do not want the U.S. to return to war in Iraq.”
In just the past few weeks, MoveOn members have made more than 15,000 calls to their members of Congress urging them to oppose U.S. military force in Iraq.
