WASHINGTON — Win Without War Senior Washington Director Erica Fein released the following statement regarding tomorrow’s mark-up of S.J.Res. 10 by the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations (SFRC), following today’s hearing on the administration’s perspectives on use of force authorizations:

“The Biden administration, the House of Representatives, and the people of the United States all agree: repealing the 2002 AUMF is a necessary step toward reining in the president’s expansive war powers and ending our nation’s endless wars. At tomorrow’s mark-up, we hope, and expect, the SFRC to make the right decision and vote to report S.J.Res. 10 out of committee so that it can move to a vote in the full Senate.

“In today’s hearing, we heard from members of the Biden administration and lawmakers from both sides of the aisle that keeping the outdated 1991 and 2002 Iraq war authorizations on the books only heightens the chances of future presidents abusing these laws and enables dangerous new forever wars, while doing nothing to make us, or the world, safer.

“With the House having passed Rep. Barbara Lee’s H.R. 256 in June, it’s clear that change is coming. We urge the Senate to follow suit.”
